A few weeks ago, amongst the craziness of finals, one of my favorite artists came to Seattle. James Blake is an incredible talented musician whose music does not fit into a set category and can only be described as soulful and mesmerizing.

I took 2 buses down to the Showbox SODO venue in Downtown Seattle near the stadium, and was extremely impressed by the venue. Very intimate yet not crammed, the venue set the perfect mood for James Blake and his opener, Nosaj Thing.I had not heard of Nosaj Thing but was thoroughly impressed by his performance of electronic music. The incorporation of the lights and music drew in the audience and created excitement in the crowd not only for Nosaj Thing, but for James Blake. In between the two shows, I glanced around making note of the type of people that were at this show compared to shows I have been to in the past in Southern California. Despite the difference in attire and general look of the people that shouts “Pacific North-West” and the shocking sight of a coat check at the entrance, the dedication of the fans was still equally as strong. I could really tell that the people at this show genuinely loved James Blake and matched my level of excitement to be taken over by the music of this British musician.
Once James Blake came on, he commanded the attention of the audience and every single person that I looked at or heard was singing his praises and looked in awe at him because of his performance. The combination of having an incredibly talented artist in a city that is driven by music really made me realize that the concerts I go to in Seattle will probably be the best concerts I will ever see. I can not wait to go to more shows at The Showbox SODO in the future and expand my musical interests through the music scene in this great city.
