Resident Artist Workshop and Artist in Residency at The Garage SF (November 22-23)
The Defiance Project has been chosen for The Garage’s Resident Artist Workshop and Artist in Residence program for the 2013-2014 season!
Resident artist workshop A 12 week residency program offering approximately 4-6 hours of free rehearsal space that culminates in a two night performance.
AIRspace was originally created at the Jon Sims Center for San Francisco artists to develop production skills and create new work. The Garage selects queer performing artists or artist groups to participate in an ongoing residency that includes fall and/or spring performance showcases for both works-in-progress and finished works. The program is on-going and there are not any deadlines. Some artists are also selected to participate in the National Queer Arts Festival at The Garage in June and to present encore presentations in SPF (summer performance festival). Applications are encouraged in performance, dance, theater and/or any other multi-disciplinary art form. After being selected, resident artists spend a period of time preparing their pieces (usually 12 weeks), then present their work either in a shared program with other artists or individually. The final length of the residency is determined during the application process and periodical evaluations during the initial phase of the residency (the first 12-weeks).
