Defiance Travel Journal Days 13-17: Wednesday Jan. 9th 2013 – Sunday Jan. 13th 2013
My time after Israel included a five-day long visit to New York City, with time snacking and walking around and shopping in various neighborhoods of the city. Over the course of my time in New York I visiting various museums, including: the Guggenheim, the Whitney, the Met, the MOMA, and the Museum of Art and Design. I always find museums extremely inspiring as well as expressive of a city’s true culture. A city’s expression of self is most apparent in its museum and art culture, so this is always a great way to get a taste of the local flavor in a given community. Because of my own personal need to experience a city’s literal flavor, I spent my time in New York eating my way through the Big Apple. Some of my favorite stops included Carnegie Deli, Serendipity, the Plaza Hotel, and various Chinese and Tibetan hole in the wall joints throughout the city. Luckily I also walked my way through the city as well as through Central Park and around the 9-11 Memorial in downtown which was an extremely special treat for my time in this incredible part of the world. After traveling abroad and being exposed to such rich culture in Israel, traveling through New York was so inspiring to me as a way to revel in the beauty of my own culture and country. Needless to say, my travels definitely gave me a travel bug; I love the person I am when I am on the road and I cannot imagine a life without such a strong sense of adventure and wonder.
