Defiance Travel Journal Day 5: Tuesday Jan. 1 2013, Mt. Arbel and Tsfat
Our second day in the North began with a beautiful hike down Mount Arbel. Not only did we get to experience gorgeous views of the Sea of Galilee and its nearby mountains, but also we got to explore the incredible ancient castle that had been build into this mountain centuries ago. In the midst of this natural beauty and proof of human splendor, we began our exploration of Kabbalism, which began in the north of Israel.
After the hike, we continued experiencing the power of Kabballah in the mystic city of Tsfat. This gorgeous city is also in the mountains, complete with winding roads and stairs for days. We visited a local artist’s gallery and learned about Kaballah as it relates to art, and then got to explore the city on our own. The streets were lined with synagogues, galleries, shops, and cafes and getting to experience the tranquil yet vibrant energy here was moving on an emotional and spiritual level. Our day in Tsfat concluded with time spent doing a community service project at a local park. There was no better way to get a sense of Israeli culture- and “Tikkun Olam” or healing the world”- than by contributing to it with our own hands and elbow grease.
